Sailing Of The Future - Project GreenJet

Posted on July | 4th | 2008

Project GreenJet was inspired by a previous design of Erik Sifrer cakked SY120 Yacht which worked the same but it was less advanced, smaller and slower. If Sifrer’s ideas are correct then those athletic sailors won’t be needed because just a few weather monitoring systems and one man to control the yacht with the help of a touchscreen will be enough.

When bad goes to worse

Fire happens occasionally onboard boats, and when it does, the outcome is generally fairly bad. Last week was another example of how serious a fire can be. This started on one yacht early in the morning, and as there was most likely nobody onboard, the fire grew quickly (you hear the cameraman say within ten minutes) which is incredible. It engulfed three boats (one to starboard, two to port), and all are completely destroyed.Nobody was hurt which is the best news, however it goes to show how important fire safety is.

Book a hotel, or charter a yacht?

You have decided to come to Greece for the summer. You got your family/friends gathered at home, looking at brochures and travel guides. Everyone is throwing ideas on the table. Suddenly, someone pops the idea of chartering a yacht.
Is it possible? Is it expensive? Where will I get informed?
Well, you are on the right site. You can see a list of available yachts at Bad Wolf Charter

But, isn’t it expensive, you might ask?

Not really, is the answer. The cost of chartering a normal yacht for a week, for 8 people, is approximately the same as booking a hotel for the same number of days and people.

The benefits are mobility, freedom (no pesky tour guides yelling for dinner breaks), and the most important of all, a unique experience. Almost everyone has stayed in a nice little Greek hotel, at a nice little Greek island.
But how many have experienced sailing the Greek waters, visiting out-of-sight beaches and enjoying unique delicacies at traditional taverna’s? Sailing is fantastic by itself, and if you combine it with a local skipper who knows his way around, you will enjoy the vacation of a lifetime.

There is a downside, of course. Sailing, no matter how easy a good yacht makes it, is “rough”. You will get pounded by waves, you will get sprayed with seawater, you will have to cook your own meal. It’s all part of the experience though, and many people find the adventure worth living. Other people hate it, and want to be pampered by nice little Greek people at luxurious hotels. It’s perfectly logical, different people like different things.

A rule of thumb, is this: Would you and your companions (friends/family) enjoy spending 7-14 days camping? It’s important that all of them really want to, because one person who is not having fun, can ruin the trip for everyone, and feel bad for himself.

If the answer is yes, then you probably can go sailing, instead of a hotel. If even one person finds the whole idea bad, you are better off clicking this: http://www.badwolfhotels.com
