silver lake

A beautiful place to visit, Silver Lake California, right next the Hollywood studios!

Many well known classic films such as Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin and Keystone Cops were produced in Silver Lake, and many of the old buildings and settings remain untouched to this very day.

It is also the birthplace of Mickey Mouse, as well as other Disney characters.

An event worth visiting is the Silver Lake Film Festival, which began in 2000 and instantly rooted into a classic. You can see the films as well as the new and old actors. The films shown at the Silver Lake Film Festival, include short films and documentaries.

The most important issue is that they remain true to their creator’s vision, unspoilt by money and commercialism.

The event takes place in the ArchLight Cinemas in Holywood, and is definately worth adding to your travel plans.

Introduction to Greece

otherotherInformation Travel Guides April 4, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Greece’s stunning beaches, shimmering blue seas and long hot summers attract millions of holidaymakers each year, but there’s more to this fascinating country than lying by the Mediterranean.

SantoriniIt was the home of Europe’s first great civilisation and the archaeological ruins that remain throughout the country are of as much historical importance as the great Pyramids of Egypt or the remains of the Aztecs in South America. Everywhere you go you’ll find the exuberant Greek culture’s infectious charm.

However the capital city Athens is undoubtedly the place to go. The old town is littered with ruins from the days of the Greek empire. Its main attraction is the Acropolis, a hill fortress and the site of some of the world’s most famous ancient monuments including the Parthenon, Erechtheion Shrine, the amazing Propylaia and the temple to Athena.

The countryside interior of the mainland and the islands has pine-filled valleys and rugged hills dotted with whitewashed villages, a picturesque rural pastiche unchanged for centuries. Add to this the opportunities for exploring the archipelago that extends far into the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas and it is easy to see why Greece makes such a fantastic and unique holiday destination.

The only problem is which island to choose. All of the islands are steeped in natural beauty but each has its own attractions and personality. Some will appeal to partygoers and couples and yet others to amateur archaeologists looking to discover their own part of Ancient Greece.

Mykonos the “the Island of the Wind”; its traditional Cycladic architecture, golden sandy beaches and exceptional beauty makes it an earthly paradise.

Visitors will be quick to realise its hallmark white-washed houses and dark blue windowsills. The small verandahs add the finishing touch, keeping it in sync with the architecture of its sister islands. Mykonos deservedly has a reputation of a party place and is the only island that attracts so many VIPs both from the domestic and the international scene.

Clubs and bars in every corner of the town guarantee partying till the early hours of the morning. But for gentle souls, watching the “red” sunset in Alefkantra can be equally fulfilling.

Book a hotel, or charter a yacht?

otherotherNew Features Travel Guides March 9, 2008 at 1:49 pm

You have decided to come to Greece for the summer. You got your family/friends gathered at home, looking at brochures and travel guides. Everyone is throwing ideas on the table. Suddenly, someone pops the idea of chartering a yacht.
Is it possible? Is it expensive? Where will I get informed?
Well, you are on the right site. You can see a list of available yachts at Bad Wolf Charter
For requests and information, contact us at badwolfcharter@gmail.com

greek island santorini

But, isn’t it expensive, you might ask?

Not really, is the answer. The cost of chartering a normal yacht for a week, for 8 people, is approximately the same as booking a hotel for the same number of days and people.

The benefits are mobility, freedom (no pesky tour guides yelling for dinner breaks), and the most important of all, a unique experience. Almost everyone has stayed in a nice little Greek hotel, at a nice little Greek island.
But how many have experienced sailing the Greek waters, visiting out-of-sight beaches and enjoying unique delicacies at traditional taverna’s? Sailing is fantastic by itself, and if you combine it with a local skipper who knows his way around, you will enjoy the vacation of a lifetime.

There is a downside, of course. Sailing, no matter how easy a good yacht makes it, is “rough”. You will get pounded by waves, you will get sprayed with seawater, you will have to cook your own meal. It’s all part of the experience though, and many people find the adventure worth living. Other people hate it, and want to be pampered by nice little Greek people at luxurious hotels. It’s perfectly logical, different people like different things.

A rule of thumb, is this: Would you and your companions (friends/family) enjoy spending 7-14 days camping? It’s important that all of them really want to, because one person who is not having fun, can ruin the trip for everyone, and feel bad for himself.

If the answer is yes, then you probably can go sailing, instead of a hotel. If even one person finds the whole idea bad, you are better off clicking this: http://www.badwolfhotels.com
